Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and bishop in Ireland.
Known as the "Apostle of Ireland", he is the primary patron saint of Ireland. Patrick was born around 385 in Scotland, probably Kilpatrick. As a boy of fourteen he was captured during a raiding party and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend sheep. He learned the language and practices of the people who held him.
Patrick`s captivity lasted until he was twenty, when he escaped after having a dream from God in which he was told to leave Ireland by going to the coast. There he found some sailors who took him back to Britain, where he reunited with his family.
After his religious training and his ordination as a priest, he was sent to Ireland with a dual mission: to care for the Christians already living in Ireland and to begin to convert the non-Christians.
Nowadays, St. Patrick is a patriotic symbol. The celebrations on St. Patrick`s Day include many traditions that have endured through time because of their strong link either with religion or national identity.

St. Patrick`s Day is celebrated each year on March 17th., the anniversary of his death. In Ireland, Saint Patrick`s Day is both, a holy day and a national holiday. Saint Patrick`s Day is celebrated in countries around the world. People with Irish heritage remind themselves of their home country by wearing green and taking part in the festivities. Saint Patrick`s Day is usually celebrated with a parade.

My holiday work as a ski instructor :)

My day starts at 7 o`clock in the morning. After breakfast I drive to "Obertilliach" with a friend of mine, who also works as a ski instructor.
In "Obertilliach" is a small ski area with only 6 ski lifts.
In the office we all get a skiing course which lasts ca. 5 days. I always get the children at the age of 4 to 8.
It is very funny to work with kids, but it also can be very challenging and exhausting when it comes to kids, who always cry and sit down purposely.
I have no day off except of January the 1st, because our boss knows that we all will be a little tired on this day because of New Year`s Eve.
In the last two days it snowed so much that we couldn`t go to work because of a risk of avalanches.
All in all I like my job a lot and I hope I can work also as a ski instructor also next year.

Jamestown

Jamestown is the first permanent English settlement in America. It was discovered by the Virginia Company of London and named after King James I.
They came there to prospect for gold and to seek a water route to the Orient. In 1607 about 100 settlers landed and founded Jamestown.

Their main problems:

- The weather conditions were rough and they did not have any freshwater sources. That`s why only 60 of the 500 colonists survived.

- The Algonquian Indians constantly attacked them. Peace came only when their chief`s daughter married a tobacco farmer in Jamestown.

Tobacco helped the colony grow and develop because of the profits that it collected from this kind of crop.
